The role of equity in the IPBES Transformative Change Assessment: Key Findings and the Roles for All for a sustainable ocean
Bio: Professor Sebastian Villasante (PhD Economics) is a Distinguished Researcher Professor at the University of Santiago de Compostela (Spain), and Karl-Göran Mäler scholar at The Beijer Institute of Ecological Economics (Sweden). He is currently the Coordinator of the EqualSea Lab funded by the European Research Council Consolidator Grant. Sebastian research is focused on sustainability transformations towards ocean sustainability and equity. He participated as a Coordinator Leading Author in the IPBES Transformative Change Assessment (TCA), he contributed to the Global Tipping Points Report commissioned by the Bezos Fund Foundation, and he is currently co-chairing the PECS Working Group on Ocean Equity and Sustainable Fisheries. Sebastian has recently joined the Earth Commission to work on safe and just boundaries of the global ocean. He has been an invited speaker at several international organizations such as the Convention of Biological Diversity, the European Court of Auditors, the European Parliament, IPBES, and the United Nations, World Bank, among others. He is the editor-in-chief of Marine Policy, and also a member of the Editorial Board of prestigious scientific journals such as AMBIO, Ecosystems and People, Nature Ocean Sustainability, People and Nature and PLOSONE Transformations and Sustainability.
